The Digital Lab was created by the International Alliance of Independent Publishers to support independent publishers in their digital experimentation, questions, and practices. As a space for reflection, exchange, and debate on digital bibliodiversity in countries of the Global South as well as the Global North, the Lab offers digital tools tailored to the needs of independent publishing houses and respectful of local ecosystems. The Lab also plays an advocacy role (for example: developing recommendations and proposals in favor of AI that safeguards bibliodiversity).

Tools and Resources

The Digital Lab provides tools, guides, and resources for independent publishers and, more broadly, for book professionals, particularly in contexts where technical and financial resources are limited. From website creation to digital book production, these resources prioritize accessible, shared solutions adapted to on-the-ground realities.

Surveys and Analyses

Through the sharing of surveys, interviews, and analyses, the Lab explores transformations in publishing in the era of digital technology and artificial intelligence. It highlights resources from different regions, particularly in countries of the Global South, in order to make innovative practices visible, foster collective reflection at the international level, and support the Alliance’s advocacy for digital bibliodiversity.

Workshops

The Lab’s workshops are spaces for collective learning and knowledge sharing. They enable publishers to exchange practices, strengthen their digital skills, and co-create responses adapted to the challenges of independent publishing, in a spirit of cooperation. Workshops take place online and/or in person.

Mentorship

Mentorship activities, whether individual or collective, represent the less visible side of the Lab. They are based on a dynamic of solidarity and peer support, where everyone can share and learn from others (skills and practical solutions related to digital technology and artificial intelligence). When necessary, experts are mobilized to respond to specific requests and support publishing houses in developing a digital project.
